Voice of Reason amongst 'False Witnesses' Accusations

The question of false testimonies in the International Tribunal investigating Rafiq Hariri’s assassination has driven another wedge between the political parties of Lebanon.

But today Samir Geagea, leader of the Lebanese Forces party, voiced what most people were thinking: only the investigating judge is entitled to pronounce a witness as ‘false’.

The complaints made by Hezbollah and its allies against the veracity of witness statements are more probably an attempt to sabotage the tribunal; the results of which, expected this month, are likely to point the finger at members of the opposition party.

Geagea also stated that the principal grounds for civil strife in the region come from Hezbollah’s enlarged cache of weapons.
